It's that time of the year when we celebrate the nation's independence, and begin those weeks, we used to call the summer doldrums. Because nothing much ever happened. For those of us on Wall Street, the 4th of July marked the time of the year when most of us took our vacations. And on those occasions when we did go into the office, it was only to work a partial day, and leave early to go to the shore, or just relax. Even during a Presidential Election year, the candidates traditionally would take this time to rest up for the final election push in the Fall. John Kennedy took this time, to holiday in Hyannis, and came back to debate Richard Nixon in September, rested and tan. But I'm afraid that won't be the case this year.
